a polymer clay rampage.

Wednesday 4 January 2012

Over the break, I went on a bit of a polymer clay rampage and made something every couple of days. One of my New Year's resolutions is to spend less time "getting inspired" and more time putting that inspiration into action, so I'm glad to have started off the year in this way.

I'm not sure I've exhausted my polymer clay obsession, so there may be more to come...

  3. The ring looks beautiful and so professional! Did you really make it yourself? How did you do it? I would love to try something similar.

  6. Thanks for all the comments! Hanna, you can buy the clay from most art stores and then just heat it up in a domestic oven. I used a mixture of the Fimo and Scupley brands.

For the rings, I made a little ball then pierced it with a chopstick to keeping the front side fatter. make I stretched the opening until it was the right size for my finger.

Susan, to do the facets, I just pushed it into the work surface. I sharpened the edges a little using a small flat object (a chopstick rest because that's all I had but I'm sure there are better tools out there). It's better to do it when the clay hasn't been too worked, otherwise it's too soft and sticky and deforms too easily. I've heard others use a knife to do facets but I didn't have much luck with that technique.

  7. Hi there! I know exactly what you mean when you say you want to stop getting so "inspired" and finally turn that inspiration into action. haha! Happens to me all the time. i've got about a squillion pictures on my computer which I've saved off the internet, thinking "Oh, that's cool! I can make that! Let me save the picture in case I forget." haha... :)

Anyways, as for these rings, they are SO cute and quirky! And so easy to make, i take it?? Nice going!

    Love
