One thing that often fascinates me about Spanish architecture is the approach to institutional work. I find there's a tendency to adopt responses that have a residential or hospitality feel. Fundación Rubido Romero, a centre that provides aid for the elderly and disabled is no exception. Accommodating lectures, exhibitions and community activities, there are no patterned carpet tiles or laminates in gaudy colours but instead a series of fine details and elegant materials which politely converse with the existing structure.
Projects like this make me question what we consider as "appropriate" and why. Not that there are really any "right" answers. This shelter for the homeless in Navarra made me think the same.
