re-love challenge: the concepts

A little while ago I mentioned that I'm participating in the Feast Watson Re-love Challenge (previous post here). I've been collecting these concept and precedent images to clarify the direction ahead of pulling out the ol' paint brush.

I mentioned previously that I wanted to explore surface treatments for this project. Since I'm quite the white on white aficionado, I want to experiment with the Liming White finish. I plan to stencil a pattern using subtle shifts in transparency levels to define the pattern. Since I see the coffee table as a place where people connect and gather, it makes sense in my mind to adopt a tessellated pattern with interlocking parts.

I also plan to paint the currently grey aluminium frame in black. I'd like to intentionally express the table's structure, rather than attempt to hide it.

Okay, I'm ready to get started. Stay tuned for the final product.
