hump day happy place: casa kimball

Wednesday 1 August 2012

Why hello beautiful villa. This architectural gem, located in the Dominican Republic was designed by Rangr Studio. Although monolithic, the architecture maintains a connection with the fortunate site surrounds through the use of open stone screens and deep under cover inside/outside spaces.

Enough about the overall form though. For me, this space is all about the materials. The detail images I find so much more thrilling than the bigger picture shots. It's that subtle texture in the stone, the pencil thin hardwood timber frames, the detail of the slotted stone screen and the general tactile nature of the palette that's got me doing mini squeals inside. Just stunning.

Might I also mention that I'm in love with those stair treads?
