2012

Friday 21 December 2012

I took the photo above just before my first attempt at "the catch" on the trapeze earlier this year. Being afraid of heights, I was a jumble of terror, excitement and nerves. My whole body was quivering at the top of that ladder, but then I just jumped. I did it. And it was completely thrilling.

That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the year. As opportunities that were part amazing, part terrifying came my way, I pushed through the fear of falling and jumped in for the exhilarating (and not always easy) ride. How crazy has the second half of this year been? In the last six months, I exhibited my first installation, pulled together my first ever styling job (and for a brand as giant as Dulux), I started scribbling on yellowtrace once a fortnight, wrote for Parlour and introduced a fluffy new friend in my life.

After all the excitement of the year, it's time for a bit of recharge time and a blogging break. Before I head off, I thought I'd leave you with a link pack for some holiday reading.

Five favourite blog posts

Five things I wanted to blog about but never did
Sometimes some things are so awesome, I assume that you've already seen it. Just in case you haven't, or if you're up for a revisit, I could look at each of these again and again and again:
>> Josheph Dirand's entire portfolio (as below)
>> Pirates Bay House by O'Connor Houle
>> The Event of Thread installation by Ann Hamilton
>> The Rabbit Hole House by Lensass
>> Villa Rotunda by Bedaux de Brower

Five online finds of the year
>> Afflante
>> Share Design
>> Julio Himede
>> Est Magazine
>> Architizer newsletter - the website can be a bit overwhelming but the newsletter is delivered in manageable bite sized piece.

Five instagrammers to follow
>> Sfawnd professional photographer and master of light.
>> Marshagolemac artist and stylist bringing little pops of colour joy in my feed
>> Paperform for origami addicts
>> Wil_d sees the world in line and pattern
>> Holmberg_  for lovers of monochrome
>> Msy1515 for crazy cat ladies like me (sorry, had to sneak that in there because it makes me smile every time).

Thank you so much for joining me on my adventures this year. While I'm on my break, I'll be reflecting on my blog and the direction I want to take in the new year. If you have any thoughts about the type of material, the frequency of posting or anything at all, please leave a comment or send me an email. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

After this mammoth year, I'm dying to see what 2013 will bring. Let's make it HUGE! Until then, have a safe and fantastic holiday season. Indulge and be merry. Now pass me the pudding...
